Goniometry Flashcards
What is ROM?
the arch of motion that occurs in a joint
0-180 deg
what is hyperextension?
more than 0 deg of extension
Hard end feel
occurs sooner in ROM than usual or in joints that usually have a soft or firm end feel
soft end feel
occurs sooner than expected in a joint that normally has a hard or firm end feel
firm end feel
occurs sooner than expected or in a joint that normally has a hard or firm end feel
springy block end feel
springy end usually caused by meniscal tear
empty end feel
no end feel often due to patient pain
Hypomobilty
decrease in ROM
may be due to shortening of the ligaments , capsule, muscles, fascia
What diseases are linked to capsular patterns?
arthritis
capsular inflammation
capsular tightness
intra-articular fracture
What factors affect ROM?
age
gender
occupation
joint structure
AROM or PROM
Disease
Hypermobility
excessice ROM in one or more joints due to laxity of soft tissues that normally limit ROM
what diseases are linked to hypermobility?
Marfans syndrome
ehlers-daho syndrome
generalized hypermoiblity syndrome
benign hypermobility syndrome
What is the beighton test for systemic hypermobility?
a test to see how hypermobile someone is
1 point for each:
hand
elbow
thumb
palms to floor
knees
4 or more means hypermobility
What is passive insuffiency?
when a muscle is stretched passively over 2 or more joints to not allow full ROM
reliability coefficients
1.0= perfect reliabilty
.9+ = excellent
.75-.9 = good
.5-.75 = moderate
below .5 = poor
