- There is a reduction of stress

- It helps to identify strengths and weaknesses
- It shows when an improvement is being made, or when no improvement is being made

Having an aim improves a specific component

It gives the athlete additional focus

So that there is a way of assessing the goal

Knowing how you are performing as an athlete can be motivating

There must be a realistic target so that motivation remains high

So that progress is monitored and the athlete knows when they have achieved a goal
