glycogen flash Flashcards
Questions
Answers
Glycogen phosphorylase
Degrade glycogen by breaking alpha (1,4) to release G1P. Can work up to 4 residues from alpha (1,6) (dextrin). Requires B6 (pyridoxal phosphate). On same enzyme as debranching enzyme
Debranching enzyme
Degrade branch points in glycogen by breaking alpha (1,4) and creating a new alpha (1,4) on main branch. Also breaks alpha (1,6) to make free glucose. On same enzyme asglycogen phosphorylase
Glycogen synthase
Make glycogen by adding 1 glucose from UDP-glucose
Phosphorylase kinase
Regulate glycogen phosphorylase activity
Protein phosphatase 1
Dephosphorylate protein
Protein inhibitor 1
Regulate the phosphatase
Branching enzyme
Break alpha(1,4) and make alpha(1,6), transfer 5-8 residues
glycogenin
Enzyme that addes first 6 glucose to itself to make glycogen primer with glycogen initiator synthetase activity
ras
GTP binding protein
PKB (Akt)
Stimulates cell cycle progression and inhibits apoptosis. GFâ>PI3â>PKB
Bcl-2
pro and anti-apoptotic
BAD
pro-apoptotic factor, phosphorylated and inactivated by PKB
E2F
TF that is inhibited by Rb (regulated by cyclin) to keep TF from transcription of genes to enter S phase
p53
recognizes damaged DNA and acts as TF to stop cell cyclin by inducing CKI
BRCA1
Inhibit cell cycle, repair of damaged DNA
