Glandular Tissue:: Epithelium Flashcards
Exocrine glands differ from Endocrine glands because?
Exocrine secretes product into a duct where endocrine glands are ductless they secrete directly into capillary network.
what are the three types of secretory forms?
acinar, tubular or coiled
What are the two different duct possibilities?
simple (unbranched) or compound (branched)
Merocrine is what type of secretion? Holocrine? Apocrine?
- release by exocytosis (most common)
- Cell breaks down and releases entire contents
- release of membrane bound vesicles (rare)
Lacrimal gland is how long? how wide? how thick? acini in the lacrimal gland are surrounded by what kind of tissue?
20 mm long, 12 mm wide and 5 mm thick.
Myoepithelium (combo of muscle and epithelial tissue, contractile function)
All exocrine glands are what kind of tissue?
Epithelium
what are the three glands of the eyelid?
- Melbomian glands (oil)
- Zeis Glands (oil, small, attached to lash follicles)
- Glands of Moll (sweat, apocrine rare).
What are two accessory Lacrimal Glands? What kind of structure do they have?
- Glands of Krause (fornix of conjunctiva)
- Gland of Wolfring (above tarsal plate)
Structure;
complex branched duct system
Acinar secretory portion
