Glands Of The GI System Flashcards
Describe Intercalated ducts?
- Squamous cuboidal ducts
- tiny
- Secreted HCO3
Describe striated ducts.
- Acidophilic simple columnar cells
- Parallel rows of Mts
- Nucleus pushed toward lumen
- Reabsorption of Na+ and addition of K+
Describe the predominate duct types in the three glands of the oral cavity/
Parotid/Submand —> Many intercalated and Striated
Sublingual —> No intercalated and few striated
What type of cells are in the excretory gland of the pancreas?
Pure serous glands
What are the two diseases that affect excretory function of pancreas?
Acute necrotizing pancreatitis
Pancreatic carcinoma
What are included in the hepatic triangle?
Hepatic portal vein
Hepatic artery
Bile duct
What is between the Kupffer cells, endothelial cells and the hepatocytes?
Space of Disse (Perisinusoidal space)
Where is the metabolic activity of the liver?
Space of Disse
What are Stellate cells? Where are they?
- Between hepatocytes and sinusoids
- Form liver scarring in injury of liver
- Store Vitamin A
What happens in response to hepatic scarring?
- Increased hepatic portal hypertension
- GI varices —> Bleed out
DescribeNutmeg Liver
The cut liver section has a variegated, mottled appearance (nutmeg liver). The
areas around the major blood vessels are red while the regions around the
central vein is yellow due to fat droplets in the cells. This pattern of destruction
is known as centrilobular ncerosis
Differentiate Gall bladder from other GI organs
- highly folded up
- Small bundles of smooth muscle
- NOT IN DISCRETE MUSCLE LAYERS
What is the embryonic site of hematopoiesis?
First yolk sac and then Liver
