Cimetidine/Ranitidine

A

H2 blocker

BLock histamine H2 receptors -> dec acid release by parietal cells

Toicity: Cimetidine inhibits P450, inc impotence, gynecomastia

Crosses blood brain barrier and placenta. Dec GFR

Other H2 blockers no side effects

D2 receptor antagonist -> Inc resting tone, contractility, motility. Does not inflluence colon transport time

Use: Gastroparesis, antiemetic

Toxicity: Parkinson effects, restlessness, drowsiness, fatigue, depression

Interacts with digoxin and diabetic agents

COntraindicated in small bowel obstruction or parkinsons disease
