GIpharm Flashcards
Cimetidine/Ranitidine
H2 blocker
BLock histamine H2 receptors -> dec acid release by parietal cells
Toicity: Cimetidine inhibits P450, inc impotence, gynecomastia
Crosses blood brain barrier and placenta. Dec GFR
Other H2 blockers no side effects
Omeprazole/lansoprazole
Proton pump inhibitor
Stop H+/K+ ATPase in parietal cells
Increased risk of C. difficile infection, pneumonia
Bismuth
Binds ulcer to provide protection and allows HCO3 to reestablish pH gradient
Sucralfate
Binds ucler base, providing protection and allowing HCO3 to reestablish pH gradient
Misoprostol
PGE1 analog -> Increased mucous barrier and dec acid production
Toxcity: Diarrhea, contraindicated in pregnancy
