- Dysphagia, Choking, Coughing, SOB, Hoarseness, Pain with swallowing
- Chest pain
- Recurrent vomiting
- Bleeding, Anemia
- Wgt loss

A
- pH testing: manometry
- Endoscopy

When is endoscopy indicated for eval GERD?
A
- despite initial treatment, sx persists
- Atypical presentation (complicated)
- Male > 50 with chronic GERD + additional risk factors for Barrett’s
- Severe erosive esophagitis

A
- obesity
- hiatal hernia
- use of estrogen, nitro
- Tobacco

What are the management for GERD?
A
- Rx (PPI, H2 antagonist)
- Stop irritating food/drug
- Drinking H2O

- EtOH
- Chocolate, Spicy food, etc

> 2 episodes a week
- erosive esophagitis
- GERD does not resolve on H2 blocker
