-transmission by: direct contact with skin injury, virus can survive in scab for years, mechanical transmission by pig louse (haematopinus suis) and flies and insects, transplacental infection of neonates

CS: typical pox lesion - skin lesions may occur anywhere, but most obvious on skin of abdomen and inner thighs, exudative epidermitis (greasy pig disease) and secondary bacT dermatitis occur in young piglets, severe infections: lesions may occur in URT or GIT
control: eradicate lice, NO VAX
