Family Anelloviridae Flashcards
genus
what virus
Genus: gyrovirus
Chicken infectious anemia
gyrovirus type of DNA
specific structure on virus
circular, single stranded negative sense DNA
12 trumpet like structures
chicken infectious anemia
-hosts, age group
-transmission
contagious in young chicks (2-4 wks), older is more resistant
virus shed in feces and feather dander, horizontal transmission through inhalation or oral exposure, vertically transmitted through eggs, ENVI STABLE VIRUS, can be on fomites for long period of time
CIA
-pathogenesis: site of replication?
main site of rep: in hemocytoblasts in bone marrow, precursor T cells in thymus and dividing CD4 and CD8 cells in the spleen, replication in hemocytoblasts leads to anemia, replication in T cells = immunosuppre.
-apoptin protein of virus induces apoptosis and destroys infected lymphocytes
-IMMUNOSUPP. and APLASTIC ANEMIA, blood may be watery and clot slowly due to thrombocytopenia (pale bone marrow), birds are then vulnerable to secondary bacT infection, virus can replicate in oviduct in chicken which can be regulated by estrogen -allowing more efficient vertical transmission
CIA
-CS and lesions
CS: anorexic, lethargic, depressed, decreased weight gain and pale, watery blood and clots slowly, PCV is low, subQ hemorrhages and skeletal hemorrhages and pale muscles
CIA
-diagnosis
CS, examination of blood: low PCV, erythrocyte count for anemia, thrombocytopenia, watery blood, necropsy, histopath, serology (ELISA), virus isolation, PCR
CIA
vaccination
-presence of AB in breeders reduces vertical and horizontal transmission
-aim of vax: protect progeny of vaxxed breeders from early infections by maternal AB, live vax available for prior to egg production, admin by injection or add to water, control Marek’s disease also
