Genetics Flashcards
What is continuous variation?
Variation with no limit for the population, such as height or age, which is plotted on a line graph.
What is discontinuous variation?
Variation with distinct groups, such as eye/hair colour. This is plotted on a bar chart.
What groups can characteristics be sorted into?
Jeff has goggled it and Jeff says that it is Environmental and Inherited. Jeff now asks that you stop asking Jeff questions so that he can go and play bob the robber.
What Characteristics does Jeff have that are Inherited?
His massive nose, bright blue hair, tiny feet and red eyes, which are inherited from his genetic material
What Characteristics does Jeff have that are environmental?
His messy writing, his addiction to Bob the robber, his un-musical skill, his scars and his accent, which he picked up from life
What is at the centrer of a human cell?
A nucleus, in most cells, but Jeff’s cells contain doughnuts :D
How many chromosomes are in each nucleus/doughnut?
23 pairs
How many chromosomes in each pair comes from each parent
That sounds confusing, but da thingy is one chromosome from each pair comes from each parent. NOW LEAVE ME ALONE -Jeff
How many genes/alleles do you have of each type?
2
Which eye colour is recessive, blue or brown
Blue
Have a fact (OR ELSE) - Jeff
Characteristics are controlled by genes which are found on chromosomes, and different genes control different characteristics
What are different forms of genes called
ALLELELELELELELELELLLLELELLELESSS (Alleles)
There are how many genes for each characteristic?
2
Have another fact so that i can finish this and play bob the robber- Jeff
If the genes are different, then you have a dominant and recessive gene and you get the dominant one mostly
What is your combination of alleles called?
Genotypes. FINALLY I CAN GO AND FINISH MY BOB THE ROBBER- Jeff
