Energy Stores And Transfers Flashcards
What are the energy stores?
Kinetic, Thermal, Elastic Potential, Gravitational Potential, Chemical, Magnetic, Nuclear, Electrostatic
What are the energy Pathways?
Mechanical, Electrical, Heating, Radiation
Whats the rule about energy
it cant be created or destroyed
What is Kinetic energy?
Anything that is moving has energy in its kinetic store. Faster objects have more energy in its kinetic store than slower objects. eg, a runner
What is Thermal energy?
Any object, the hotter it is, the more energy it has in its thermal energy store. eg, a kettle
What is elastic potential energy?
Energy that is being squashed or stretched. The more the spring is stretched, the more energy it has in the elastic potential store. eg, an elastic band
What is gravitational potential energy?
Anything with mass inside a gravitational field. Higher up objects have more energy in their gravitational potential store. eg, something on a shelf
What is Chemical energy?
Anything that can release energy by chemical reaction, such as food, fuel and batteries.
What is electrostatic energy?
Anything with electric charge that is interacting with another thing with an electric charge. eg, a balloon
What is nuclear energy
Atomic nuclei have energy in their nuclear store that can be released in nuclear reactions. eg, the sun
What is magnetic energy?
Anything magnetic interacting with another magnet
What is the mechanical pathway?
A force causes an object to move where mechanical work is used
Eg. Punching a Punchbag
What is the electric pathway?
The transfers in an electric circuit due to charges moving. eg, a wire
What is the radiation pathway?
When energy is given out, like light or sound. This can happen in a vacuum
What is the heating pathway?
When energy is transferred from a hotter object to a cooler one. eg, touching a hot kettle
