What is a nutrient?
A chemical component that plays a specific structural or functional activity in the body
Food/Diet
Anything that an animal eats
Ration
Sequence/ Quantity of food
Feeding Management
eating patterns of individual animals/herds on a daily basis
What is protein necessary for?
Production of young, muscle maintenance, animal growth
Function of iodine?
Primarily involved with thyroid hormones that regulate metabolism
Function of Iron?
Involved in cellular respiration and oxygen transport via haemoglobin
Function of Zinc?
Important in stress management, immune responses, enzyme systems and protein synthesis
Function of Selenium?
It’s requirement is very close to its toxicity level
Why cant sheep have copper?
Accumulates very quickly in the liver and kills them
