Gastritis Flashcards
What is gastritis
Acute or chronic Inflammation of the stomach lining
What are the three broad categories for things that cause gastritis
Autoimmune (A)
Bacterial (B)
Chemical injury (C)
What happens in autoimmune gastritis
Antibodies are present that attack the parietal cells.
What gets effected if parietal cells are damaged
HCL secretion is increased
Intrinsic factor and vit B12 absorption is reduced
What part(s) of the stomach does autoimmune gastritis occur
Fundus
Body
What happens in Bacterial gastritis
H.Pylori increases the surface pH of the stomach and the stomach secretes more HCL. This causes inflammation
What can cause chemical inury gastritis
Drugs
Alcohol
Bile reflux from duodenum
What drugs typically cause gastritis
NSAIDS
In what area of the stomach is gastritis more likely to cause gastric cancer
Infection of the Fundus
In what area of the stomach is gastritis more likely to cause duodenal disease
Infection of the Antrum
What factors contribute to what the bodies response is to H.pylori
Environmental and genetic
