Gas Laws Flashcards
1
Q
What’s the equation?
A
PV= nrT
2
Q
WHAT ARE some ofTHE MAIN ASSUMPTIONS FROM KINETIC THEORY OF IDEAL GASES?
A
- gases are made up of molecules which are in constant random motion in straight lines
- the molecules behave as rigid spheres
- pressure is due to collisions between the molecules and the container
- all collisions are perfectly elastic
- temp of gas is proportional to the average KE of molecules
3
Q
What are the two main assumptions
A
There are no IMF between molecules (gas)
The volume occupied by the molecules is entirely negligible relative to the volume of the container
4
Q
What is the units for pV=NRT
A
P= Pa V= m^3 N= mass/mass of one mol R= gas constant given in the Q T= kelvin (+273 to degrees C)
5
Q
What are the standard conditions ?
A
Conc= 1mol/dm3 Pressure= 100kPa Temp= 298K
