Gas Laws Flashcards

Q

What is pressure?

A

Force over an area

  1. conversion factors:
    1. 101 KPa = 1 atm
    2. At 0 degrees celcius and 1 atm = 1 mol =22.1L of volume.

Q

What are the 4 rules that makes an ideal gas?

A
  1. move in randome motion
  2. no IMF
  3. occupies no volume in space
  4. elastic collision because they can’t form IMFs

Q

What are the 4 ideal gas laws?

A

These equations help us see the behavior of gases and relates their presure with their volume in relation to their mole value and their temperature.

  1. PV =nRT ( main equations)
    1. P: pressure
    2. V: volume
    3. n: mole of the gas
    4. R: constant .0821 atm/mol K
    5. T: temperature in K
  2. Boyle’s law : relate pressure and volume
    1. P1V1=P2V2
  3. Charles’s law: relate volume and temperature
    1. V1/T1=V2/T2
  4. Avogadrow’s law: relate volume and mole
    1. V1/n1 = V2/n2
  5. Combination law: relate pressure volume with the m;le and temperature
    1. P1V1/n1T1 = P2V2/n2V2

Q

what is the kinetic molecular theory assumption

A

Explain the movement of the ideal gases ( only works with ideal gases)

Assumptions

  1. Pressure: is created by the gases bumping into the container
  2. Pressure is equally spread throughout the container walls or else there can be an explosion
  3. temperature helps us measure the the movment of the gases
    1. high temperature gases move fast
    2. low temperature gases move slow
