Gas Laws Flashcards
1
Q
What is pressure?
A
Force over an area
- conversion factors:
- 101 KPa = 1 atm
- At 0 degrees celcius and 1 atm = 1 mol =22.1L of volume.
2
Q
What are the 4 rules that makes an ideal gas?
A
- move in randome motion
- no IMF
- occupies no volume in space
- elastic collision because they can’t form IMFs
Real gas contradics 2 and 3
3
Q
What are the perfect condition of an ideal gas?
A
Ideal gas work best at
- low pressure
- High volume
4
Q
What are the 4 ideal gas laws?
A
These equations help us see the behavior of gases and relates their presure with their volume in relation to their mole value and their temperature.
- PV =nRT ( main equations)
- P: pressure
- V: volume
- n: mole of the gas
- R: constant .0821 atm/mol K
- T: temperature in K
- Boyle’s law : relate pressure and volume
- P1V1=P2V2
- Charles’s law: relate volume and temperature
- V1/T1=V2/T2
- Avogadrow’s law: relate volume and mole
- V1/n1 = V2/n2
- Combination law: relate pressure volume with the m;le and temperature
- P1V1/n1T1 = P2V2/n2V2
5
Q
what is the kinetic molecular theory assumption
A
Explain the movement of the ideal gases ( only works with ideal gases)
Assumptions
- Pressure: is created by the gases bumping into the container
- Pressure is equally spread throughout the container walls or else there can be an explosion
- temperature helps us measure the the movment of the gases
- high temperature gases move fast
- low temperature gases move slow
