Gait Flashcards
Gait pattern with injury to tibial nerve
Decreased push off phase = decreased contralateral step length (double step gait pattern)
2 point gait pattern
cane and affected leg advance simultaneously
4 point gait pattern
Slowest but safest because 3/4 point are always in contact with the ground
ex. right crutch, left leg, left crutch, right leg
Positive trendelenburg =
drop of contralateral hip due to weakness of glute medius or instability (labral tear)
Heel whip is a frontal or sagittal plane deviation
frontal
Most commonly/widely used gait parameter to assess capacity
gait speed
normal: 1-1.4 m/s
Hip flexion at IC
20-30 degrees
Average step length adult
28 in
This means average stride length is 56 in
When is quad most active during gait cycle
loading response
not IC
Max knee ROM needed during gait
Knee ROM for sitting
Knee ROM for stairs
Knee ROM for crossing legs
Knee ROM for bike
60 degrees during swing
80
85-95
105
Bike 110 without compensation
S1-2 lesion gait deviation
gluteal lurch
Most PF needed during gait
20 degrees
PF action during loading response
eccentricly controlling DF
Quad activity in midstance
concentric to produce TKE
Hip flexor activation in midstance
eccentric to control hip extension
