Functions Of The Skeletal System Flashcards
What are the 9 functions of the Skelton?
Supportive framework, protection, muscle attachment, movement, red and white cell production, storing calcium and phosphorus, levers, weight bearing and reducing friction across a joint
Why is supporting framework important?
Holds you up
Why is protection important?
Protects the vital organs
Why is muscle attachment important?
Muscles are attached by tendons to create anchors to pull on
Why is red and white blood cell production important?
Red blood cells- carry oxygen
White blood cells- fight disease
Why is storing calcium and phosphorus important?
Make bones stronger, more dense and less likely to break
Why are levers important?
To allowed for faster and stronger movements
Why is weight bearing important?
To supports the bodies weight and avoid injury
Why is reducing friction across joints important?
To avoid the bones rubbing together
