Fuel Flashcards
How many integral wing tanks are there?
2
How many tanks are in each integral wing tank and what is each section called?
2:
- collector tank
- surge tank
What is the purpose of the collector tank?
Keeps the fuel pumps submerged thus ensuring constant fuel flow
What is the purpose of the surge tank?
To collect any fuel that may enter the vent system during wing down and uncoordinated manoeuvres
How many water drains valves are there?
One per tank
How many magnetic level indicators are there?
3 per wing
What is the capacity of each tank?
6550kg
What fuel pumps does each integral tank contain?
1 ejector fuel pump
1 ac electric fuel pump
3 scavenge pumps
1 DC fuel pump (right wing only)
How does the ejector fuel pump work?
Venturi effect
What is the purpose of the AC electric fuel pumps?
Act as backup for the respective ejector pump
What BUSSES are the AC electric pumps powered by?
AC pump 1 = AC BUS 1
AC pump 2 = AC ESS BUS
What are the purpose of the scavenge pumps?
To maintain the fuel level in the collector tank
What is the purpose of the DC fuel pump?
- Provides pressurised fuel for normal APU operation
- engine start when there is no AC power or the AC fuel pump is not working
What happens when the cross feed selector knob is changed to LOW 1/2?
LOW 1 = cross feed valve opens and AC pump 2 activates
LOW 2 = cross feed valve opens and AC pump 1 activates
When does a fuel imbalance message appear on the EICAS and when does this disappear?
Appears when fuel balance is over 360kg and disappears when it reduces to less than 45kg
