Flight Controls Flashcards
What is the time limit on manual trim inputs?
3 seconds
What happens if half actuation of the manual trim switches persists for more than 7 seconds?
The switch is automatically deactivated
How many ACEs are there?
9:
- 3x P-ACE
- 2x SF-ACE
- 1x HS-ACE
- 3x S-ACE
How many channels does an ACE have?
2
For each type of ACE what is config of each channel?
P-ACE = active/standby
SF-ACE = one for flaps and one for slats
HS-ACE = active/standby
S-ACE = each channel controls one pair of MF spoilers
What happens when the system enters direct mode?
The FCM is removed from the control loop and the system reverts to fixed control laws
What is the purpose of a power up built in test (PBIT)?
Detects any latent faults
How long does the electrical PBIT take?
3 mins
How long does the hydraulic PBIT test take?
1 min
What is the purpose of the fly by wire backup battery?
Keeps the appropriate number of elevator and rudder actuators operating for at least 15 mins
During landing and takeoff when is the tail strike avoidance system active?
Takeoff = below 20ft
Landing = below 70ft
What is the priority logic for the trim switches?
Backup switches
Captains manual trim switches
FOs manual trim switches
Auto trim
What happens if there is a right aileron jam?
FO side is jammed and the captain retains control of left aileron and pair 5 of MF roll spoilers
What happens if there is a left aileron jam?
The captains half of the system is jammed and the FO retains control of the right aileron and pair 4 of MF spoilers
In the event of an aileron disconnect who retains the artificial feel?
Captain
What happens if one PCU becomes disconnected from the aileron?
Force authority will be halved
What happens if the rudder pedals are jammed?
The rudder remains active and will be actuated by high level functions
What happens if a rudder PCU becomes jammed?
The rudder will be locked at its failed position and yaw control will be established through the secondary effects of roll
What are the two slat/flap protections?
Skew protection
Strike protection
What is skew protection?
Prevents unacceptable differential movement of the slats/flaps
What is strike protection?
Prevents excessive load on the slats/flaps
How many attempts to move the flaps/slats does the SF-ACE allow before the PDU is de energised?
Initial unsuccessful attempt and then 2 more
When in ground mode what is maximum deflection of the ground and MF spoilers?
Ground = 60 degrees
MF = 40 degrees
When are ground and MF spoilers extended to their max deflections?
When all of the following occur simultaneously:
- WOW on ground
- wheel speed above 45kts or airspeed above 65kts
- TLA below 26 degrees
When on ground when will the spoilers automatically retract?
- wheel speed is below 45kts for at least 5 seconds
Or - TLA above 35 degrees
What is the maximum in flight deflection of the MF spoiler panels?
30 degrees
When will the speed brakes be retracted in flight?
- flap 2 or greater is selected
- speed below 180kts
- TLA above 70 degrees
