Frog dissection Flashcards
Fat bodies
Spaghetti shaped structures w/ bright orange colours
(usually on the inside of abdominal wall)
Peritoneum
Spider-web like membrane covering many of the organs
Liver
Brown, largest structure of body cavity
Not primarily a digestive organ but secretes bile (needed for digestion of fats)
3 lobes of the liver
- Right lobe
- Left anterior lobe
- Left posteria lobe
Heart
Triangular structure with L&R atria and single ventricle
Conus arteriosus
Large vessel extending out from the heart
Lungs
2 spongy organs underneath/behind the heart and liver
Gall bladder
Small green sac under the liver that stores bile
Pyloric sphincter valve
Regulates the exit of digested food from stomach to small intestine
Small intestine
Straight portion: duodenum
Curled portion: Ileum
What holds the ileum together?
Mesentery (a membrane)
Blood vessels running through mesentery will carry absorbed nutrients away from intestine
Large intestine
Leads to cloaca
Spleen
In folds of mesentery, dark red sphere that serves as a holding area for blood
Esophagus
Tube that leads from frog’s mouth to stomach
Kidneys
Flattened bean shaped organs at lower back of frog
Filter waste from blood, often have fat bodies attached to top
