Frog Anatomy Flashcards
What Parts are in the Oral Cavity?
Tongue
Glottis (Opening to the respiratory tract)
Pharynx (Opening to the esophagus)
Internal Nares and External Nares
Openings in and out of nose
Oviduct and Ovaries
Oviduct is the equivalent to the fallopian tubes. These are the tracts to the Ovaries.
Pyloric region of stomach
Connects to the Duodenum.
Duodenum
Initial section of the small intestine
Functions of the Pancreas
Secretes digestive enzymes to the duodenum.
Functions of the Liver
Secretes bile into the duodenum
Functions of the Gall Bladder
Stores bile from the liver
Functions of the Large intestine
Absorbs water and forms poop. Narrows down to the Cloaca
Functions of the Colaca
Receives urine from the Kidneys and reproductive products. Mammal Tetrapods mainly posses a Cloaca instead of separate openings for digestive, reproductive and urinary systems.
Bronchus
Links the lungs, leads to the Larynx and glottis.
The Larynx
Houses vocal cords, passageway of air to the trachea.
Glottis
The glottis, a slit-like opening on the floor of the pharynx, is a valve that controls airflow in and out of the respiratory passages. The glottis opens directly into a boxlike larynx. This voice box occurs in all amphibians but is anatomically most complex in frogs.
Alveoli
Air pocket lining. Allows for rapid gas exchange
Gonadal Fat Bodies
Store energy for gamete production
Spleen
Immunological screening of the blood; lymphatic organ
Swim Bladder
Fills with gas to provide buoyancy
Operculum
Plate covering gills
Gill Filaments
Contain capillaries for gas exchange.
Gill Rakers
Protect the gills. Filtering extensions
pyloric ceca
These appendages, secrete enzymes and provide additional digestive areas to the intestine.
Proventriculus
Secretes an acidic/enzymatic mixture for mechanical digestion
What are the non-vesseled organs?
The Spleen and the heart.
What veins form the Sinus Venosus?
2 anterior vena cavae and one posterior vena cava
Posterior Vena Cava does what?
passes through the liver and send blood to the right atrium via the sinus venosus.
What is the pulmocutaneous arch?
Sends Oxygen poor blood to the skin and lungs
Carotid arch
Sends oxygenated blood to the rest of the body
