Explain Freuds take on the Ego
The ego is exist in the conscious mind, it acts as a MEDIATOR between the impulsive Id and the Superego ambitions
Explain Freuds take on Id
The Id exist in the unconscious level of the mind, it is impulsive and HEDONISTIC and demands immediate gratification
Explain Freuds take on Super Ego
The superego exist in the preconscious, it deals with MORALITY and the overall ambitions of the mind and striving for perfection

Explain the Oral stage
Happens during birth to two years old, conflict during breast feeding and can lead to fixation if child is UNDER or OVER satisfied. Habit of smoking, drinking or oral aggression can occur
Explain the Anal stage
Happens during years 2-4, conflict during toilet training and can lead to fixation if child overly CONTROLLED or LACK of control. Habit of being overly controlled may result in rigidness, lack of control results lax behavior
Explain the Phallic stage
Happens during 4- to adolescence. Boys under go the Oedipus complex, girls under go Electra complex
Summary of Oepidus complex
Boy has sexual desires for mother but is afraid of father.
Represses sexual desires for fear of castration.
Identifies with Father in hopes to find partner like mother
Summary of Electra complex
Girl is sexually attracted to Father and wants to replace Mother. Develops penis envy and resents Mother. Later over coming resentment and adopting many characteristics as mother, later on hoping to have a child who might be a boy finally over coming penis envy

- Put patient into relaxed state
- verbalize any thoughts to therapist question
- Figure out why DM are in progress

Goal is to identify hidden goal that is trouble some
- Keep a dream journal upon waking
- Obtain extended records
- interpret them as wishful thinking, anxiety, or dissatisfaction

Goal is to locate where cathexis is
- engage in one on one
- read list of words and examine reaction
Explain how transference works
goal then 1 conditions
Goal is to overcome resistance and promote insight
-Act and feel towards therapist as you would toward and important figure in your life

Cathexis is the process by which the available libidinal energy in the psyche is attached to or invested in a person, idea, or thing

Libido is the energy available to the life impulses, and is the driving force that propels people to do things
