define Inferiority complex
- The feeling of being overwhelmed by challenge
- results from children’s sense of their small size and powerlessness.
Explain Organ inferiority
The concept that everyone is born with some weak organs, and can become neurotic depending on how its dealt with
Explain Life goals
-An individual’s focus for achievement. -Develops in childhood to make up for inferiority feelings,
defense against feelings of impotence.
What makes a healthy Goal?
Goals are grounded in reality, and will change when warranted
What makes a unhealthy Goal?
Disconnected from reality, goals are too self focused and lack social interest
What are the the four different styles of life?
Ruling dominate type: dominate others
Getting-Leaning type: Expecting to receive from others
Avoiding type: avoiding life’s problems
Socially useful type: Solves life problems with social interest in mind
Explain social interest:
Solve problems with others in mind
communal intelligence and empathy
cooperate with others
How do you increase social interest
Cooperation: working with others to achieve a common goal,
Life tasks: Work, friendship, and love
Safe-guarding tactics
Keep us from self awareness; “Yes but…” “if only…”
What are the three obstacles to growth?
ORGAN INFERIORITY: tend to withdraw from social interaction for fear of not being able to compete and perform to standards
PAMPERING: Difficult to develop social interest, and lack confidence in there own abilities because of dependence on others
AND NEGLECT: grow up in an environment where love and cooperation are none existence, there for have difficulties developing
