What was the social order during the French Revolution?
A social hierarchy split into 3 estates.
What was the first estate of the french social hierarchy?
Clergy - They work for the church. Very wealthy. No taxes.
What was the second estate for the French social hierarchy?
Nobility - Nobles from the dark ages. Rich. No taxes
What was the 3rd estate from the French social hierarchy?
The rest of the population - Paid taxes
What were the 2nd estates given?
Top jobs in government, army, and royal court. Spent lots of income as it came in.
What 2 groups mostly made up the 3rd estate?
Bourgeoise and poor
What are bourgeoise?
Bankers, merchants, lawyers, etc.
Who were the poor?
Farmers, urban workers
Why was france in a financial crisis?
Because they had 7 years in war which cost a lot of money but they also had defecit spending and spent lots of money on large palaces.
Why did france have a famine?
Because of a bad harvest and high food prices, Poor was affected most.
What was the Estates - General?
A meeting to solve issues between the 3 estates.
What was the tennis court oath?
An oath made at the kings tennis court over the 3rd estate wanting to kill the other estates.
What was the event that started the French Revolution?
The storming of the Bastille.
What was the storming of the bastille?
An event when people of paris assembled out side of bastille (prison) and demanded for the prisoners to be freed. (bloody)

A french King.
