Fractional Distillation Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the process of fractional distillation

A
  • the oil is heated until most of it is gas, these gases enter a fractionating column
  • longer hydrocarbons have high boiling points, so condense at the bottom
  • shorter hydrocarbons have low boiling points,
So turn into liquid much later on at the top
