What is a forensic nurse
- They apply the forensic aspects of healthcare combined with the bio-psychosocial eduction of registered nurse
What does a forensic nurse do
- Provide specialized care for patients who are experiencing acute and long-term health consequences associated with victimization or violence
What is a SAFE, SANE, SANE-A, SANE-P, SART
SAFE = Sexual assault Forensic Examiner (any HCP)
SANE = Sexual Assault Nurse Exainer
SANE-A= Adult/adolescent
SANE-P = Peds
SART = Sexual assault response team
In Ohio what is the timeframe to collect evidence
96 hours for adults

What is the most common drug used for sexual assault

Ceftriaxone 500 mg IM single dose PLUS
Doxycycline 100 mg BID PO 7 days PLUS
Metronidazole 500 mg BID PO for 7 days
When should postexposure hepatitis B vaccination be given
- If the hepatitis status of the assailant is unknown and the survivor has not been previously vaccinated
*is the assailant is known to be HBsAG positive, unvaccinated survivor should receive both hep B and HBIG
When should follow up dose of the Hep B vaccine be given
1 to 2 months and 4 to 6 months after the first dose
Is a patient required to report a sexual assault in order to receive and exam
