forces - resultant forces Flashcards
what is the resultant force?
a single force that has the same effect as all of the original forces acting together
how do we work out resultant force from a simple scenario?
substract smaller force from larger force
how do we work out resultant force?
driving force <- 10000N
air resistance 5000N
friction force -> 4000N
- find total force acting to the right. add together friction + air resistance = 9000N
- substract 9000N from driving force acting to= 1000N to the left
skydiver
800N down (weight)
air resistance 800N
what is the resultant force?
it is balanced so no resultant force that has
what is an object shown as in a free body diagram?
a point. forces drawn as arrows starting at point
what does altitude mean?
height above the ground
what does it mean if at a constant altitude in an aeroplane?
must be a force with same altitude as weight in opposite direction. this is called lift.
what force does aeroplane experience from engines? what is the opposite
forward force called thrust. opposite force is air resistance (drag) in reverse direction
what must be balanced if aeroplane moving at a constant velocity?
forward and backwards forces ( see by length of arrows)
