forces - Newton’s first Law of Motion Flashcards
what does Newton’s Laws of Motion describe?
the effects that forces have on the motion of an object
what is Newton’s first Law of motion?
- if resultant force acting on a stationary object is 0, then object will remain stationary
- if resultant force acting on a moving object is 0, then object will continue to move in the same direction at same speed (with same velocity).
what happens if forces are the same?
they are balanced so no resultant force?
when will the velocity if an object change?
if resultant force is acting on the object
what are resistive forces?
an equal force in the opposite direction. they include friction with air and road in a car. they slow down an object
what does a resultant force cause?
an object’s speed to change and or direction
what happens if object is moving at a constant speed to the right but a resultant force acting to the left?
object will decelerate
what happens if an object is moving to the right and then a resultant force also to the right?
it will accelerate
what happens if resultant force acting on the bottom of the object?
causes object to accelerate upwards
