Force Flashcards
What is force?
Something that can change the motion if an object
When force is applied does the object HAVE to move?
No, applying force doesn’t necessarily mean the object will move
What is the unit of measurement for force?
N- Newtons
List the 6 most common types of force:
- Weight
- Friction
- Dragging ( air resistance )
- Magnetic force
- Electric force
- Buoyancy
What is friction?
A force that exists between two surfaces and only exists when they come into contact
Does friction work in the way that you are pulling or the opposite way?
Opposite way
What reduces friction? Give 2 examples
Lubricants, soap & oil
What is air resistance?
A type of friction between air and another object, that slows down this object as it moves through the air.
What is weight caused by?
Gravity
What is Gravity?
An attractive force that pulls together two objects that have mass
Is gravity strong or weak? Why?
It is weak, unless the object is very large you wouldn’t notice it
What is weight?
Weight is the gravitational force between a body and another body
Is weight and mass the same?
No
What is weight measured in?
N - Newtons
How do you find weight?
Mass x gravity (10)
