31
Q

Name 6 safety rules in a lab

A
  • Wear safety goggles
    -Don’t mess around with chemicals
    -Follow instructions carefully
  • No eating and drinking in the lab
  • Handle all equipment carefully
32
Q

What is an experiment?

A

a scientific procedure undertaken to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate a known fact.

33
Q

What is a trundle wheel?

A

The trundle wheel is made up of a wheel (usually with the circumference of one metre), a handle which is attached to the axle of the wheel, and a device which “clicks” every time the wheel makes one complete turn.

34
Q

What is an opisometer?

A

Opisometers are used to measure the length of curved lines.

35
Q

What is a vernier callipers?

A

This caliper can measure the outside diameter of an object (outside vernier), the inside diameter of a hole (inside caliper), or the depth of a hole (depth probe).

36
Q

What is the definition of : sublimation

A

Sublimation is the transition of a substance directly from a solid state to a gas state

37
Q

What is the definition of condensation?

A

Condensation is the process of gaseous water (water vapor) turning into liquid water

38
Q

What is the definition of diffusion?

A

the natural spreading-out of molecules in a liquid or gas

39
Q

What is the definition of time ?

A

time is defined as the measure of a change in a physical quantity or a magnitude used to quantify the duration of events

40
Q

How to find the area of a rectangle?

A

Length x Width

41
Q

How to find the area of an irregular object?

A

The overflow can experiment.

42
Q

What are the units for measuring distance?

A

Kilometres, metres & centimetres

43
Q

What are the measurements for mass?

A

Kilograms, & grams

44
Q

What are the units for measuring mass?

A

Grams, Kilograms and tonnes

45
Q

What are the units for volume?

A

Cubic meters

46
Q

What is a dependent variable?

A

A dependent variable is what you measure in the experiment and what is affected during the experiment.

47
Q

What is an independent variable?

A

It is a variable that stands alone and isn’t changed by the other variables you are trying to measure. For example, someone’s age might be an independent variable.

48
Q

Independent vs dependant variables

A

An independent variable is the variable that is changed or controlled in a scientific experiment to test the effects on the dependent variable. A dependent variable is the variable being tested and measured in a scientific experiment.

49
Q

What is the zero error?

A

Any indication that a measuring system gives a false reading when the true value of a measured quantity is zero,
eg the needle on an ammeter failing to return to zero when no current flows. A zero error may result in a systematic uncertainty.

50
Q

How to find the mass of liquid?

A

To mass the fluid, weigh it in a container, pour it out, weigh the empty container, and subtract the mass of the empty container from the full container.

51
Q

How to find the mass of a solid?

A

If the density of solid is known, its mass can be determined by multiplying density with volume.

52
Q

How to find the volume of a regular solid?

A

Length X width X height

53
Q

How to find the volume of an irregular solid?

A

Overflow can experiment

54
Q

How to find the volume of a liquid?

A

To calculate a liquid volume, divide the mass of the liquid by the density of the liquid.

55
