What do cells need to survive?
Cells need food, oxygen and water to survive
Why do we need a circulatory system?
We need a circulatory system to transport food and oxygen down to your feet and up to your brain
What are vertebrates?
They are animals with a backbone
What type of circulatory system do we have
We have a closed system
What does our circulatory system consist of?
It consists of fluid ( blood ), a pump ( heart ) & tubes to carry the liquid ( veins and arteries).
Are capillaries walls thin or thick?
Thin
What can get into capillaries ?
Gasses, Nutrients & waste
What are the 4 substances in blood ?
Red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets & plasma
When doctors are talking about something that is inferior, what are they referring to?
They are referring to your legs
When doctors are talking about something that is superior , what are they referring to?
They are referring to your arms
What do red blood cells do?
Red blood cells contains haemoglobin and carries oxygen around the body
What do white blood cells do?
White blood cells fight infection
What do platelets do?
Platelets are the cells involved in clotting the blood to keep blood in and germs out.
What is plasma?
Plasma is the liquid of the blood and is about 90% water, it carries around the red & white blood cells, platelets and other materials ( eg. CO2, O2, nutrients, waste and heat.)
Where are red blood cells made?
They are made in red bone marrow.
