- Give our bodies energy
- To grow our muscles and bones
What is the aim of the digestive system?
The digestive systems job is to break food down into smaller molecules so that it can be passed into the blood
What are the parts of the digestive system?
Mouth, Saliva glands , Oesophagus, Liver, Stomach , Gallbladder, pancreas, Large & Small intestines & appendix
Where is food ingested from?
The mouth(?)
What physically breaks down food?
Your teeth
What chemically breaks down food?
Enzymes ( which are found in the food) chemically break down food
What are the 4 types of teeth?
Incisors, Canines, Premolars & Molars
What are incisors used for/located?
They are sharp teeth at the front of the mouth used to hit and cut.
What do the canines do?
They are pointed teeth used for tearing food apart
What are premolars used for?
Premolars are large rounded teeth used for crushing food
What are Molars used for/located/size?
Molars are the largest teeth found at the back of the mouth, they are used for crushing food.
What does the Oesophagus connect?
It connects the mouth to the stomach
What is the Oesophagus’s job?
It’s job is to further physical digest food and bring it to the stomach
What is the stomach?
The stomach is a muscular that physically churns and stores food.
What is the name of the acid that chemically changes food?
Hydrochloric acid
Where does food from the stomach enter?
The Small Intestine
What breaks down food in the small intestine?
Enzymes
What small ridges allow food to be absorbed into the bloodstream?
Villi
Can you live without the Small Intestine?
NO
What does the pancreas make?
The pancreas makes the enzymes that break the down the food in the small intestine

Gallbladder
What does bile break down?
Fats ( Saturated & Unsaturated)
