What do you use to test for starch

A

Test with iodine (orangey brownie colour)

If starch is present it will turn blue black colour

What do you use to test for sugars and how do u test for it

A

Use benedicts solution

  • add that into a boiling tube
  • put tube into water bath
  • heat it up

If sugar is present the colour should become redish

A
  • Add some ethanol+water(colourless)
  • shake the solution and mix it
  • if fats are present solution should turn cloudy

A
  • you use biurets reagent (light blue)
  • add to food substance
  • If protein is present it should turn into a pinky purpley colour
