Food Chains And Food Webs - Ecosystems Flashcards
What is the use of food chains and food webs?
Food chains and food webs can be used to describe the feeding relationships in an ecosystem and the direction of the energy flow.
How are food webs and food chains different?
A food web is just a bunch of food chains linked together.
What are the levels within a food chain called?
Trophic levels.
How much energy is passed on from one trophic level to the next?
Only 10-15%.
What organisms make up the first trophic level?
Producers.
Why do most food chains only have four trophic levels?
Because such a small amount of energy is passed on, if there were any animals above the fourth trophic level, they would not receive enough energy to survive.
Draw a food chain containing the following: wedge-tailed eagle, grass and plants, yellow-footed Rock wallaby.
Grass and plants—->yellow-footed Rock wallaby—->wedge-tailed eagle.
Draw a food web where the following occurs: macro algae is eaten by Paua and kino, Paua and kino are eaten by crayfish, crayfish eats periwinkle, periwinkle eats micro algae, and kino and crayfish are eaten by humans.
