Foc Quiz 4/27 Resin Bonded FDP Flashcards
RBFP:
Resin Bonded Fixed Prosthesis
RBFP is aka:
Maryland Bridge
Adv of RBFP:
min tooth removal, esp for abutment teeth (intact & caries free) , red chance of pulp exposure, no anesthesia needed, supragingival prep, easy impression making, no need for interim, red chair time, red pt cost, rebonding possible
1’ goal of RBFP:
replace missing teeth w max tooth conservation
Type of bonding Maryland bridges use:
Micromechanical bonding
Alternative if pt w Maryland bridge doesn’t work:
conventional FDP or implant supported prosth
These are found on either side of the Maryland bridge:
metal wings
Disadv of RBFP:
Red longevity (50% in 10y), enamle mods, space correction difficult, good alignment of abutment teeth is req, esthetic compromised on pos teeth
% red in longevity, RBFP in 10yr:
50%
When is it difficult to get esthetic result from RMSP?
when pontic space is greater or less than the dimension of a normal tooth
RMFP indications:
Replace missing anteriors, prosth splinting of perio involved teeth, single pos tooth replacement
Contraindications< RMSP:
Long span, lots of restos or damaged teeth, poor enamel quality, short cx crown, bruxism, metal alloy allergy, deep vertical overlap, sig pontic width discrepancy
Diseases that lead to poor enamel quality:
hypoplasia, emaalogenesis iimperfecta
1’ consideration for making RBFP:
cover as much enamel surface as possible while keeping occlusion, esthetics, or perio health in tact
Design aspect that helps resist occlusal forces and provide broader area for bonding:
“Interproximal wrap around”
