Flight Controls Flashcards
In Alternate Law, what are you commanding when you move the side stick forward and aft?
Load Factor
In Alternate Law, what are you commanding when you move the side stick left and right?
Direct sidestick-to-roll control surface position relationship
In normal law, what happens if both pilots move thier side sticks simultaneously?
The inputs are summed (limited to max defection of a single stick)
What is required to lock out a faulty side stick?
Press and hold the disconnect for 40 sec
Can an AP be engaged after a side stick is
locked out?
YES
(The takeover side A/P is available and can be
used)
What is the primary purpose of the ELACs?

- ELevator Control
- Aileron Control
- Stabilizer Control
What is the primary purpose of the
SECs?
Hint: 3S
(Three SECS; Three purposes that start with “S”)

- Stabilizer Control
- Standby Elevator Control
- Spoiler Control
What is the primary purpose of the
FACs?
Hint: F-L-E-W

- Flight Envelope Protection
- Low Energy Warning
- Electrical Rudder Control
- Windshear Detection
What does a white OFF light indicate when assoctiated with a ELAC, SEC, FAC?
Computer is deactivated.
During Manual flight, you notice on these two flashing lights.
What does this indicate?

Dual Input
What would be the aircraft response be if the CA and FO were to apply equal but opposite control inputs?
Potentially no change.
The inputs would be added
(summed) and each would
cancel one another out IF
equally applied.
Both pilots should not make control inputs at the
same time. If a pilot needs to takeover the
controls what should be done to prevent dual
input?
Press and hold the Auto-Pilot
Disconnect / Takeover red
button.
How long should you hold the Takeover
pushbutton to lockout the opposite side stick?
40
SECONDS
During manual flight, you see the indications below and hear the aural alert
“Priority Right!”
What does this mean?
To lockout the CA sidestick how long must you hold the red takeover pb?

The FO is holding the red takeover pb and the CA sidestick is attemping to make inputs.
40 seconds until lockout
What do these green makes indicate?

Bank angle limits
67* = 2.5G Level Turn
In Normal Law, what are you actually
commanding when you move the side stick
forward and aft?
Can you exceed those limits?
Load Factor
(neutral equals 1.0g)
(Angle of Attack (AOA) if slowed to Alpha
Protection range)
Can the aircraft stall in alternate law?
Yes
Is load factor protection available in Alternate Law?
Yes
Is Auto Trimming available in Alternate Law?
Yes
You are in Alternate Law as you begin the approach. After lowering the landing gear, the FMA displays this message…What has occurred?

Direct Law
(Landing Gear triggered, No Protections )
If the speed brake handle is armed, what is
required to activate the Ground Spoilers during a
rejected takeoff?

Handle armed.
Wheel Speed > 72 Knots with
Thrust Levers at or near idle
Handle not armed
Wheel Speed > 72 Knots with one engine
reverse and the other at or near idle
With the AP ON,
what maximum
speed brake setting
is available…
▪ On the A320 & A321
A320: HALF
A321: Full
List at lease two conditions in which the Speed Brakes will auto-retract.

A320: Flaps config Full
A321: Flaps config 3 OR Full
Alpha Prot
TOGA Thrust
In Normal Law, what are you actually
commanding when you move the side stick left
and right?
Roll rate
What are the protections available in Normal Law?
Hint: Six
(NOT included)
- Pitch
- Bank
- Yaw (YD +Turn Coordination)
- High Speed Protection
- Low Speed AOA Protection
- Load Factor
