When FCU selected altitude = CRZ
Altitude and there is a target Mach,
Soft altitude mode engages which
allows the aircraft to vary +/- 50 feet
from the cruise altitude to maintain
MACH. This minimizes thrust
variations, reduced fuel consumption
and increases customer comfort.
