Flight Controls Flashcards
Stabilizer trim brake
Off and Normal
Normal off light is extinguished and primary trim enabled
Push stops horizontal stabilizer movement Amber off illuminates and electrical power to the brake is removed
Stick pusher push to inhibit light
during detection of imminent stall STICK PUSHER PUSH TO INHIBIT switch lights illuminate and the autopilot disconnects then abrupt forward movement of both control columns followed by stick shaker deactivation forward pressure continues until angle of attack reduced below stick shaker onset The stick shear can be stopped by
1) flight crew pulling aft on the controls until reduced below shaker onset
2) pushing stick pusher push to inhibit light
3) inhibited by decreasing performance windshear
HYD CONT RUDDER
Allows selection of manual rudder ops
If manual selected or if right hyd pressure is too low the rudder tab unlocks In manual mode the rudder pedals move the control tab on the rudder
How slats positioned
5 slats on each wing operate as a single unit. Cables connected to hyd drums powered by left and right either can operate. Slats controlled with slat flap handle up/ret and EXT
Meaning of SLAT DISAG level 2
slat disagree with each other or with commanded position
How stab is trimmed using primary trim switches
when both moved primary trim brake is released Warning horn sounds stab moves more than one degree also “stabilizer motion” sounds
difference primary and alternate stabilizer trim
Alternate trim slower than primary used by autopilot
Stabilizer trim position displayed
top of the SD engine synoptic
green bar displays range
Position bug displays stab relative position
Digital readout displays the exact stab position
also displayed at the top of the config page above airplane symbol
how elevators normally positioned for pitch control
by control tabs with variable load feel artificial load feel
explain how pitch control is maintained if control columns jam
override mechanism on the torque tube allows to operate independently should either jam
130 lbs to disconnect bang
maintenance needed to reconnect
what is function of elevator AUG system
2 hyd boost cylinders augment elevator during deep stall recovery additional nose down capability
left hydraulic system with accumulator backup
Displayed on configuration page
roll control with ailerons and spoilers
control tabs connected to control wheels
greater roll with more than 5 deg spoilers extend a proportionate amount
Trimmed by trim tab outboard of control tab trim switches locate on pedestal
How are ground spoilers automatically deployed
spoilers operate automatically on landing at main wheel spin-up or a ground shift signal from the nose gear. During rejected takeoff selecting reverse thrust deploys the spoilers If throttles are advanced the spoilers automatically retract
Rudder limiting
Primary is mechanical system operated by ram air pressure from a pitot tube on vertical stab
Second controlled by flight control computer backup if primary fails operating as a function of airspeed engages at predetermined airspeeds
How flap and Slat position displayed
CONFIGURATION page displayed with flap setting
Also on PFD up or down arrow indication direction of flap movement (not displayed when reach commanded position
