AIR Flashcards
explain the ckpt/cabin temp selector switches
CKPT/CABIN TEMP Selector
AUTO -Temperature control valve position automatically adjusted to
maintain selected temperature in the cockpit or cabin.
MAN - Momentarily rotating and holding the selector toward HOT or COLD
moves the temperature control valve towards open or closed, allowing
manual control of the output temperature of the air conditioning pack. The
valve moves as long as the selector is held toward HOT or COLD.
o COLD - Adjusts conditioned air temperature toward cool.
o STOP - Spring-loaded position when selector is released. The
temperature control valve remains at the last selected position.
o HOT - Adjusts conditioned air temperature toward warm.
NOTE: When operating in MAN mode, the full cold position should be selected
initially. Manual temperature adjustments may be determined and selected
thereafter, as desired.
how cockpit and cabin temps are depicted on the AIR synoptic
Cockpit/Cabin Supply Duct Temperature
White - Normal.
Amber (boxed) - Temperature exceeds limit.
Cockpit/Cabin Actual Temperature
White - Normal. Dashed for manual (cockpit).
Cockpit/Cabin Selected Temperature
Cyan - Normal. Dashed for manual.
function of the FLOW switch on the AIR panel
NORM – (Normal Position) The flow control valve solenoid is energized to
provide a lower airflow rate.
HIGH - The flow control valve solenoid is de-energized to provide a higher
airflow rate.
o Used during Non-Normal situations including Smoke & Fumes,
Volcanic Ash, Pressurization and single engine ops.
explain the function of the L/R pack switches
OFF - Flow control valve is commanded closed. Stops conditioned airflow.
AUTO – Flow control valve is commanded open. Provides airflow to the air
conditioning pack, supplying conditioned air to the cabin and cockpit.
where are cabin alt and rate displayed
SD Secondary Engine & SD Air Synoptic Pages
CABIN ALT - Cabin altitude in feet.
CABIN RATE - Cabin rate of climb in feet per minute.
How is avionics cooling accomplished on the ground and inflight
The radios are cooled automatically on the ground by two fans (primary
and backup) that stay on all the time.
During flight, radio cooling is controlled with the AVIONICS COOLING
switch.
NOTE: Switch operates inflight only.
o FAN–(Normal Position) The venturi valve is commanded closed. The
fans operate normally.
With the switch selected to FAN, the primary fan cools the
radios. If the primary fan fails, the backup fan comes on
automatically.
o OVRD - The venturi valve is commanded open and venturi airflow cools
the radios. The radio rack fans are off.
Explain the pack shutdown switch
AUTO - Allows automatic pack shutdown in the event of an engine failure.
OVRD - Manually overrides automatic air pack shutdown due to an engine
failure if aircraft is above 3,000 AGL
Note: Both packs automatically shutdown if either engine fails during
takeoff. However, auto pack shutdowns due to high supply duct
temperatures cannot be overridden.
Recall the function of the RAM AIR switch
right
The ram air system provides ventilation for the cabin and the cockpit when
air conditioning is not available. When the ram air valve is open, ambient
airflow from the right heat exchanger ram air duct enters the right air
conditioning system.
Packs are not required to be running for ram air ventilation.
RAM AIR Switch:
o OFF - Ram air valve is commanded closed.
o ON - Ram air valve is commanded open, allowing ram air to enter
the right air conditioning ducts.
Cabin Press switch light
switch light is dark when system is operating in auto mode. If you push it then it will light up manual and the EAD “Cabin Pressure Manual”
If both auto controllers fail the SELECTand MANUAL light will light and EAD will say “SELECT CABIN MANUAL” When pushed the light will say MANUAL
Select illuminates to indicate failure of both automatic systems.
explain the function of the pneumatic system controller
controls engine bleed air pressure and temp requirements for the air condition system and airfoil ice protection system
explain the gasper booster fan
ON - Provides supplemental airplane ventilation with or without air
conditioning packs operating.
With packs off during booster fan operation, the ram air valve should be
manually selected to ON (open). Supplemental air is drawn in through the
open ram air valve.
With packs on, the fan increases cold air ventilation through the eyeball
vents.
