From where are blood samples collected in fish?
Blood can be sampled from caudal/tail vein
What are signs of disease seen on a fish farm
Elevated mortality
Inappetance
Poor growth/ill thrift
Moribund/lethargic individuals (best for diagnostic sampling!)
Signs of respiratory distress/gasping
Erratic swimming behaviour (e.g. corkscrewing)
What are external signs of disease in fish
Discolouration (pale or dark)
Congestion/bleeding skin (especially fin bases)
Exophthalmia or hyphaema
Skin ulcers or wounds
Gil pathology- pale, mucus patches, bleeding etc
Presence of external parasites
Fin erosion
