Process 2 trigger
Scenario:
* Two houses of broilers containing 16,700 birds in total were depleted at 35 days old.
* The production report accompanying the birds to the slaughterhouse stated a cumulative daily mortality at the farm of 8%.
* The Broiler Condition Report for the houses can be seen in the following page.
Questions:
* Would this be a process 1 or process 2 trigger level?
* What could be the cause(s) of the rejects?
* How could these be avoided/reduced in the future?
- Process 1 trigger
- There is cellulitis/dermatitis and septicaemia which could be indicative of a bacterial infection
- Good terminal cleanout and disinfection. Vaccination or metaphylactic treatment of future placement of birds on the site, is indicated if the pathogen is known

- Process level 1
- Pododermatitis could be caused by standing on wet litter. This could be poor husbandry or related to birds scouring due to GI tract disease
- Better management, more litter, enhanced ventilation and better GI tract disease control
