A
  • Provide an adequate water supply to appropriate fire protection systems.
  • Provide reasonable assurance that a fire will not significantly increase the risk of radioactive release to the environment

A
  • Lake water supplied by 3 pumps.

  • Jockey always on keeps 125psig in system
  • Motor Driven starts at 100psig (+-5)
  • Engine Driven starts at 90psig (+-5) 5 sec time delay

Pre-action Sprinkler system

A
  • After an alarm is received off of both the A and B train for a zone, (or manually) pre-action valves open to deliver fire water to sprinkler heads.
  • Will only discharge water if heat from fire has melted a sprinkler head.
  • Zone 12 (Aux building 1st floor hallway)

Wet pipe sprinkler system

A

-Water is already in lines to the sprinkler heads, requires only fire to melt heads to discharge water

Dry-Pipe sprinkler system

A
  • Water is not in pipes leading to sprinkler heads.
  • Air pressure in the piping keeps the dry pipe valve clapper shut.
  • Loss of air pressure will cause clapper valve to open, filling the system with water
