A
4-12 yos late spring Nasal secretions and respiratory droplets contact with infected perrsons no longer contagious after rash erupts

A
An eruptive rash common viral infection - Parvovirus B19

Assessment findings
A
Low grade fever
malaise, sore throat, lethergy
Rash starts on face cheeks (slapped cheek disease)
second phase spreads to body, exttremities,
Final phase pruritic and itching, made worse by exercise and sun.
Palms and soles may be affected
may return to school if fever free x 24 hr.

Possible ccomplications
A
Aseptic memengitis
Seizures

Diagnostics / Labs
A
None usually made clinically
Avoid exposure ti infected persons

Treatments
A
rest and supportive treatment
Analgesics if necessary
may last up to 3 weeks
may fade and then intensify.
