PE for fever

A

Gen: irritable, inconsolable
HEENT - eyes for mucus dc, TMs for erythema and bulging, facial tenderness, nasal dc, mucus membranes moist, if teeth check for cavities gingival swelling abscess, tonsillar exudate erythema.
Heart -
Chest - pneumonia, wheezing, crackles, bronchitis
Abdomen - BSs, masses, HSM
Musculoskeletal - Inspect all joints for swelling and erythema
Skin - ecccymosis, macules, papules, petichia, vesicles.
Neuro - meningeal signs, nuchal rigidity, Kernig’s sign orr Brudzinski sign.

CBC, UA, Blood Cultures,

CXR, Stool Studies

Diagnosis

A

Fever >100.4
No identifiable cause. consider high risk. Hospitalize if < 3mo old.
secondary to infection, inflammation, ingestion, malignancy.

Treatment

A

If not high risk treat with empiric abx therapy. Antipyretic therapy.
