Feline Infectious Peritonitis Flashcards
What kind of feline coronavirus is most prevalent?
FECV
This is the mutated FECV into a virulent form
FIPV
What type of cells do FIPV enter and replicate?
Monocytes and macrophages
What variables play into the mutation of the virus?
Host, environment, and the virus itself
What are the two forms of FIP?
- Vasculitis (wet form)
- Multisystemic pyogranulomatous disease
What are the clinical signs of FIP?
Fever, lethargy, inappetence, distended abdomen
What are some characteristics of the effusive “wet” form?
- Vasculitis
- Yellow-tinged, clear/cloudy, viscous white consistency
- Pyogranulomatous
- younger cats
What are some signs of non-effusive “dry” form of FIP?
- Granulomatous, parenchymatous lesions
- Any organ can be affected
What is the gold standard for diagnosing FIP?
Histopathology + IHC for FCov
What test has a high sensitivity for FIP?
Rivalta’s test
Why are testing for antibodies not good for diagnosing FIP?
Anti-FCoV antibodies CANNOT differentiate between FIP and FECV
What are two approaches to treating FIP?
Immunosuppression + Immunostimulation
What CBC finding is associated with effusive FIP?
Lymphopenia
