Feedback Flashcards
1
Q
Intrinsic feedback
A
- intrinsic feedback is from internal proprioceptors about the feel of the movement, kinaesthesis
ADVANTAGES
-occurs as movement happens can be corrected immediately
-performer does not have to rely on anyone
DISADVANTAGES - in cognitive stage performer cannot interpret information correctly,
2
Q
Extrinsic feedback
A
- from external sources eg coach or teacher, received by the visual and auditory systems and is used to augment intrinsic feedback
ADVANTAGES - coaching points lead to improving
DISADVANTAGES - inaccurate feedback can negatively affect performance
- if the person giving feedback is unreliable motivation will drop
- does not encourage kinaesthetic awareness
3
Q
Positive feedback
A
- this is received when the movement is successful and this reinforces learning
ADVANTAGES - leads to positive reinforced SR bond
- very motivating
DISADVANTAGES - if undeserved this negatively reinforces SR bond
- some performers don’t like praise
4
Q
Negative feedback
A
- this is received when the movement is incorrect
- it is then used to correct the movement to make it more successful
ADVANTAGES - this motivates some
- is very clear on what aspect needs improvement
- best for autonomous
DISADVANTAGES
-can be demotivating
5
Q
Knowledge of results
A
- this is feedback about the outcome of a skill
- it is extrinsic
- eg whether a shot went in playing basketball
- can be positive or negative
- important for improving the next performance
ADVANTAGES
-performer can see the outcome of their action - can motivate some
DISADVANTAGES - if unsuccessful can be de-motivating
6
Q
Knowledge of performance
A
- this concerns the movement itself and the quality of it
- normally extrinsic, can be intrinsic eg from your kinaesthetic awareness
- can come from a teacher giving you specific feedback
- can come from watching a recording or the feeling of the movement
ADVANTAGES
-get the feel of good performance
-can be motivating
DISADVANTAGES - if unsuccessful can be de-motivating
