Feedback Flashcards
Define intrinsic feedback and give an example
Feedback from an internal source
e.g. proprioceptors
What are the charecteristics of intrinsic feedback?
- Feedback is continuous
- Allows for adjustments
- Used by autonomous performers
- Cognative performers do not yet possess the knowledge or kinaesthesia
Define extrinsic feedback and give an example
Feedback from an external source
e.g. verbal and visual feedback
What are the characteristics of extrinsic feedback?
- Can be concurrent (during) or terminal (at the end)
- Allows strengths and weaknesses to be identified
- Can motivate and increase confidence
- Can demotivate if constantly negative
- Performers become over-reliant
Define postive feedback
Feedback is given to reinforce a required behavior - strengthen the SR bond
What are the charecteristics of positve feedback?
- Increases confidence and motivation
- Often in the form of praise
- Most effective in the cognative stage
Define negative feedback
Feedback is given to weaken a undesired behavior - weaken the SR bond
What are the charecteristics of negative feedback
- Can decrease confidence and motivation
- Often in the form of critisism
- Most effective in the autonomous stage
Define feedback from knowledge of results
- Feedback about the outcome
- Binary, successful or unsuccessful
Define feedback from knowledge of performance
Feedback about the process
