feedback Flashcards
feedback can come from what two sources
internal
external
what is internal feedback
is information regarding how the movement is kinesthetically felt by the performer and is relayed from the muscles, tendons and joints of the body
what is external feedback
is information that assists in performance and can be seen, felt or heard via the sense organs which receive cues from outside the body, for example seeing the arrow miss the target
what are the two types of external feedback
intrinsic
augmented
what is intrinsic feedback?
the information coming from the environment can be intrinsic in that it is a direct result of the body’s action
what is Augmented
when provided by an external source such as a teacher or coach
feedback takes two forms
knowledge of results
knowledge of performance
what is knowledge of results
this is information the performer receives regarding the success of the movement in matching a predetermined goal.
what is knowledge of performance
this is information a performer receives regarding the patterns of movement produced
the timing of feedback can be broken down into to groups
concurrent feedback
terminal feedback
what is concurrent feedback
is provided during the movement, either through the performers feeling of the movement pattern or by the coach through tactile or verbal cues
what is terminal feedback
is provided after the movement has been completed, generally by the coach or through video playbook
the feedback a coach provides can take two forms
general feedback
specific feedback
what is general feedback
helps to motivate the athlete but does not provide any information on how he performed
what is specific feedback
provides the athlete with information that will help him understand how he has performed and how this performance needs to be changed to improve it
what are the main roles of feedback
to motivate
to change immediate performance
to reinforce what has been learned
`effective feedback is
specific not general
constructive, not destructive
directed at behaviour that is changeable
sooner not later
clear and concise
positive and informative
specific not general
feedback should contain precise information regarding what the athlete must do in order to solve or correct a problem
constructive, not destructive
constructive feedback recognises positive parts of the athlete’s behaviour and suggest positive steps for improvement
directed at behaviour that is changeable
feedback based on this principle helps the athlete focus on an aspect of performance that can be modified
sooner not later
feedback should be given as soon as possible after the performance
clear and concise
feedback should be given in terms the athlete can understand
positive and informative
this form of feedback motivates the athlete and provides them with the information necessary to implement changes in performance
