Q

Increasing the temperature impact on rate

A

1) Particles move faster.
2) Therefore there are more successful collisions.
3) The energy of collisions increases since particles are moving faster.
4) So higher temperatures will increase the number of successful collisions, causing the rate of reaction to rise.

Q

Increasing the concentration impact on rate

A

1) There are more particles of reactant in the same volume.
2) This makes collisions more likely.
3) In a gas, increasing the pressure means that the particles are more crowded.
4) Therefore the frequency of collisions will increase-so the rate of reaction will also increase.

Q

Increasing surface area (smaller solid particles) means a higher rate

A

1) If the reactant is a solid, breaking it into smaller pieces will increase its surface area to volume ratio.
2) The particles will therefore have more area to work on, so the frequency of collisions increases.
3) Therefore, the rate of reaction will rise.
