Certification Requirements
- 17 years of age
- Read, speak, write and understand the English language.
- Pass written and check ride
- Meet the required aeronautical experience requirements
- Receive the required ground and flight training endorsements.
- Hold atleast a 3rd class medical.
Recent Flight Experience
To act as PIC: 3 takeoffs and landings past 90 days. Full stop for night.
Night PIC: 1 hour after sunset to 1 hour before sunrise.
24 calendar month flight review. Consisting of a 1-hour review of part 91 and 1 hour flight of maneuvers.
Record keeping
Only need to record flights that count towards a check ride or flight review.
Privileges
May act as PIC:
For a business if incidental for that business and doesn’t carry P or P for compensation or hire.
For a charity if the pilot and event follow the FARs. 91.146
May be reimbursed for search and location if it was sanctioned by the government. Only towards fuel, oil, airport expenditures and rental fees.
With atleast 200hrs you may act as an aircraft salesperson.
Act as PIC towing a glider. 61.69
Limitations
May NOT act as PIC while carrying passengers or property for compensation or hire NOR may they act as PIC for compensation or hire.
Pro rata share is only when sharing a common purpose for the flight and only includes, fuel, oil, airport expenditures and rental fees.
Medical Certificates: Class, Expiration, privileges, temporary disqualifications.
1st: ATP, <40=12 Cmonths, =>40 = 6 Cmonths
2nd: Commercial, 12 Cmonths
3rd: PPL, <40 = 60 Cmonths, => 40 = 24 Cmonths

Basic Med privileges and limitations
Same as PPL:
6 occupants
7 passengers
12,500 max gross takeoff weight
18,000MSL max altitude.
250 knots or less.
Not for compensation or hire.
Proficiency Vs Currency
Proficiency = Safe, competent pilot that understands.
Current = Legally allowed to fly like meeting 90 day t/o and landing.
Flying unfamiliar aircraft or operating with unfamiliar flight display systems and avionics.
Don’t do it.
